The surname Behgal is prevalent among the Jat Sikhs of Haryana, India, with its roots tracing back to the original surname Dhaliwal. Legend has it that a military general named Baghel Singh once resided in several villages in Haryana. His profound philosophy of life deeply influenced the Jat Sikhs who interacted with him, prompting them to change their last names to Bagel in his honor. Over generations, the spelling of the surname gradually morphed into Behgal.^[1]
