Draft:André Shearer

  • Comment: Use of SEO "journalism" sites like BizCommunity, press release republishers like iAfrica, youtube videos disguised as eNCA &c, are all marks of the subject not having enough coverage in reliable sources to justify an article. The problem with paid article writing, and the reason that it is deplored, is that it leads to exactly this situation, where you try to fly an article without being able to provide evidence that notability is met. And then, further, you waste the time of users in furtherance not of building the encyclopedia but of you being paid. It is not good. Please consider stopping. André Shearer is the founder and Chairman of the Indaba Foundation[1], a New York-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. He is also the founder and Director of the Indaba Institute[2] in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape of South Africa. The Institute trains teachers in Early Childhood Montessori Education, aiming to build a better future for the children of the impoverished communities in the wine-growing regions of South Africa [3][4][5]

Patrons of the Foundation are Professor Thuli Madonsela, who served as the Public Protector of South Africa from October 2009 to October 2016, and holds the Chair of Social Justice at the University of Stellenbosch; former Deputy-President of South Africa Phumzile Mlambo-Ncguka, who has served as the Executive Director of UN Women; Bience Gawanas, who has served as Special Adviser on Africa for the United Nations and as Commissioner for Social Affairs at the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government, and Esther Wojcicki, a journalist, educator, and Vice Chair of the Creative Commons advisory council.[6][7]

The Indaba Education Fund[8][9] was first established by Shearer and his team at Cape Classics Wines[10], inspired by the Indaba wine brand, which remains a hallmark of the company's portfolio. Shearer is the CEO and Chair of the company, [11] which won the 2018 Wine Enthusiast Magazine Wine Star Award for Importer of the Year. [12] Shearer began importing virtually unknown South African wines into the United States in 1991. Now 25% of all South African wines available in the United States bear the Cape Classics stamp.[12] Shearer is also is the Chairman of the Newberry House Montessori School,[13] [14] situated on the Lourensford Estate in Somerset West.

in 2015 Shearer was awarded the Desmond Tutu Phelophepa Achievement Award for Excellence, presented during the American Friends of the Phelophepa Train Annual Gala in New York City.[11][8]

In 2022, the Indaba Foundation and Stellenbosch University launched a discussion paper on the Economic and Social benefits of investing in Early Childhood Education. Shearer said in an interview with eNCA that "the investment of just 10% of the country's annual Academic Budget in Early Childhood Development would transform the national economy within a decade or generation into something incalculable."[15]
