[fr; ja] is a Chinese character. It is one of the Kyōiku kanji or Kanji taught in elementary school in Japan.[1] It is a second grade kanji.[1]

History[edit]

The upper part of the kanji evokes the window (), the lower part, the fire ().

In the past, Japanese houses did not have chimneys; the fire was made under the window and it became black.
