Marketing has no place here[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Hi, Sorry for the mix up. I am a staff member of the school and had been asked if we could try to fix some of the errors on the page - in particular, the incorrect school name. The choice of username was so that it was very clear as to how the changes came about. I mostly left the text as it - just changed some of the incorrect facts.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I would like to be unblocked because I hadnt tried to hide that I am from the school and the changes made were done in the best interest of accuracy, which is something I know wikipedia strives for. If I am unblocked I would only make changes that are accurate in relation to the school.

Decline reason:

Please make a new unblock request and specify what new user name you are requesting. EdJohnston (talk) 14:54, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have you read and understood WP:COI (conflict of interest) and WP:NPOV (neutral point of view)? NPOV is hard to achieve when you are closely connected to a subject. Also, do you understand that Wikipedia accounts are for individuals and not for organisations? Your edits should (ideally...) come from you and not because you were 'asked' to make them. Peridon

I understand the conflict of interest in this and that they are for individuals. My goal is not to come and change anything that anyone else is making to the schools page, I truly believe in the freedom for changes and for this to be a community page. My only interest is accuracy, to ensure that the right principal is reflected and the right details are there - I would not be looking to 'market' the school through the page. I hope you will unblock the account, knowing that I would not be updating the page with anything that is not to do with accuracy. If unblocked I will also ensure I thoroughly read and obey the NPOV at all times. I inaccurately assumed at the beginning that anyone could write on the pages - including marketing. But I understand that it makes sense to have just community edit the pages for neutral positioning.Tinternschoolsmarketing (talk) 10:30, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. Peridon (talk) 11:37, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Offer of Help with Tintern Schools article[edit]

G'day. I'm going to extend a hand of friendship here. Once you have satisfied the above and come to a more acceptable username, I'd be happy to help out with improving the Tintern Schools article. I know nothing about the school, but I know a fair bit about what school articles here on wikipedia should look like, so I'm able to give some advice on how to proceed.

Please note that I'm not an admin, and my offer of help is, of course, conditional on your being unblocked by satisfying the conditions given above in your block notice. ˜danjel[ talk | contribs ] 16:38, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Danjel- thanks so much for the offer of help. If I do get unblocked I would love to work with you to improve the schools article -what is on the page is quite old information and a bit inaccurate and I would love to give people more information about the school because we are a very unique school.

Great. For now, you need to choose a new username. Make another unblock request as you did above, and this time say what you want your new username to be.
I've moved the school to the new school name. There are probably other improvements that can be made as well. Once we're ready to go, we'll create a copy of the school article in your userspace. Asking for feedback on a draft is a good way to make sure that you are satisfying WP:COI by asking people to note any WP:NPOV issues.
Oh. Just as a matter of courtesy, make sure you sign everything you write by putting ~~~~ at the end. It generates your signature, like this --> ˜danjel[ talk | contribs ] 17:41, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! I have had trouble logging in with the new user name. Would love to get started working on fixing the page up. What do you suggest as a first start?Murphsa16 (talk) 22:18, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
