Matthew Jaissle (born 1968) is an American film director, producer and writer, chiefly of low-budget B movies, usually of the horror genre. His films have generally been direct-to-video affairs. Jaissle has primarily produced his work under his own production company, Carilliam Pictures, which is based in Milan, Michigan, USA.

Early life[edit]

Career[edit]

According to Stephen Jones' Essential Monster Movie Guide, Jaissle is "multi-talented" as he generally fills several roles besides direction, including writing, producing, editing, and music scoring.[1]

In his book 150 Movies You Should Die Before You See Steve Miller is negative of Jaissle's work, criticising his cinematography, (mainly his use of camera angles), as well as his foley work and dialogue writing. Miller also added that he feels Jaissle's audio mixing is so poor that it "sets a new cinematic low". He went on to note that Jaissle none the less went on to win an award for his film The Necro Files.[2]

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's Birth.Movies.Death noted Jaissle for his "do it yourself" filmmaking.[11] When writing for Weekly Volcano Jaissle reflected on his own techniques, stating that his films were "cheaper than most" and that he has a fondness for covering up mistakes and issues with copious amounts of fake blood.[12]
