Summary[edit]

This is a composite image. On the left is a photograph of Alison Bechdel taken by herself for reference for an image of her father in Fun Home. This image is ©2006 Alison Bechdel, and was scanned from an interview with Bechdel in The Comics Journal #282, p. 46. On the right is a scanned image of the final panel from Fun Home; it is also ©2006 Alison Bechdel.

Fair use for Fun Home[edit]

This image, Fun Home photoreference.jpg, is being linked here; though it is subject to copyright I (Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 21:25, 13 August 2007 (UTC)) feel that it is covered by U. S. fair use law because:

  1. No free alternative can exist to illustrate the artistic techniques used in the creation of Fun Home;
  2. It consists of a low resolution copy of an individual panel from a graphic album and a low resolution copy of a photograph used to depict the creation of that graphic album;
  3. It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell either the graphic album or the relevant photograph in any way;
  4. Copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the photograph or the graphic album;
  5. The image is significant: it demonstrates the photoreference technique used by Alison Bechdel in the creation of Fun Home;
  6. The photoreferencing technique illustrated is discussed in the article, thus using this image to illustrate the article is considered fair use.
