DescriptionC. Scott Chambers House and Funeral Parlor, Main Street, Walton, KY - 52719170646.jpg
English: Built circa 1920, this Arts and Crafts-style side-gable bungalow was built for C. Scott Chambers, an undertaker, to serve as his primary residence and a funeral home, which operated until 1936, when Chambers became too elderly to continue working, and is where he lived until passing in 1943. His daughter, Mary Scott Chambers Grubbs, later became the first woman to be licensed as a mortician in the State of Kentucky, and continued the business as the Chambers-Grubbs Funeral Home with her husband, Wallace K. Grubbs. The highway linking US 25 in Walton to Interstate 75 is named in honor of Mary Grubbs. The house was sold after C. Scott Chamber’s death, though it was once acquired by a member of the family in 1996. The house is clad in stucco with a front gable dormer, a front porch with brick columns, a double entrance door that allowed coffins to be easily carried in and out of the first floor, and a one-story bay window on the north facade. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
